Natalee Holloway Update 39: ABC's 20/20 special report starts in half an hour. Rumours about de Vries cancelling Larry King and Oprah.

Joran van der Sloot has now been formally named a suspect in the murder of Natalee Holloway. His statement to the effect that he did not know whether or not she was alive when her body was dumped means the prosecution can and will demand more severe punishments.

Gerard Spong, a prominent Dutch attorney, stated earlier today that there is a very real chance that van der Sloot may win the criminal case, but will be unable to win a civil suit brought by the surviving family members. Since there is an extradition treaty between the Netherlands and the United States, possible damages may be "..far more than he will ever be able to repay. The American system for awarding damages can have devastating results."

Peter R. De Vries is 'reconsidering' some of his American TV appearances. His production company Endemol is citing "completely ridiculous demands" regarding exclusivity of interviews, formats and availability. De Vries will definitely appear in Alabama, but all other engagements may be off. "I have enough to do here." De Vries declared in a statement. "I might just leave it, if they keep this up."

Well this is wonderful news ! I hope the 3rd time is a charm for him and that this will lead him to prison. The ABC interview aired last night...it was good...the translations were typed out below as well as verbally so it was easy to follow.Patrick Van Der Eem was amazing and seemed to do it all for the love of a parent and their child.. and not for the $$$.Again Olivier thank you for all your hard work ! I will keep touching base with your blog..I feel like I got the inside track before Greta!!!(and other media) Watching closely in Virginia,USA

I saw the ABC 20/20 show last night and although Van der Eem assured Chris Cuomo that he just wanted to nail Van der Sloot, and wasn't really into it for the money, you have to admit that Van der Eem is one "hard-looking" character! Also as an ex-con, naturally his credibility would come into question if this goes to trial. Peter De Vries' decision not to appear on Oprah etc. was a wise decision IMO. His appearance on any talk show, would only contribute to the already "circus-like" environment of the case. From the complete(?) footage that was broadcast on ABC last night, it appears that Joran IS obfuscating the truth about how
Natalee died and also regarding the disposal of the body. (I also believe that Joran WAS on the boat, as his non-verbal body language is practically a "give-away"! He is certainly concealing the details and his involvement in the disposal of the body! Is there any information lately concerning the Aruban authorities re-searching the area for the body again? Something terrible, unfortunately, must have been done to that girl prior to her death that Joran appears to be concealing - and I don't think his obvious apprehension on tape last night has to do with her alleged ingestion of a date-rape" drug, etc. because he could easily blame that on someone else! (he's such a pro at that!) IMO, Joran's fear and apprehension has to do with something else - quite unknown to the public at this time. BTW - you should feel flattered that your coverage, was so much BETTER than big media! Great job, as always!

American TV has those bad habits about demands on guests. Tell Peter to check out Greta van Sustern - she's such a media whore she will probably agree to anything! But then last we heard she thinks Joran is innocent and this is a false confession. I think she's still looking at Boetti in the bushes as the perp.

I believe ABC sort of butchered the coverage. It appears DeVries original program was much more easy to track, more contiguous.

Any chance you can check the translation about Natalee "foaming" at the mouth? The ABC program has Joran saying Natalee was NOT foaming at the mouth, just the "seizure" and no more.

After watching last night's emotional 2020, I was sure I was gonna have another dream about Natalee and I did. This time we were on the beach. Natalee was wearing white shorts and white tank. She was afaird to get in the water, but after I got in... she followed right after me. We talked, laughed, and played. It was so much fun. Then we got ice cream. Then, it was another day and I was at a water park alone waiting in line for a water slide. Then, all the sudden Natalee shows up in a bikini. We went down the water slide together and then went on all the other rides. We played at the water works station and got eachother soaked with waterguns. I usually hate getting wet but I didn't care this time... I was just so happy to be with Natalee and see her happy. She was so joyful and free spirited... like a carefree teenager... just the way she supposed to be. When we got some food, we talked for a while and she told me how much she loves her mom and family... she said they mean everything to her.

When I woke up in the middle of the night, I was so heartbroken that Natalee wasn't here to be that carefree teenager to love her family like she was. I couldn't sleep and then all the sudden was inspired to write a poem. So, I did... heres how it went:

Dear Natalee
I know it seems impossible now
I know your cold and caught in the storm
I know your miles and miles away from your nice warm bed
I know that you didn't ask for this to happen
I know that you've give anything to wrap your arms around your mom
And give her the biggest hug in the world

Dear Natalee
You will make it through the storms
Just like you've made it through the other storms in your life
Even though this is the most challenging storm
You will continue to march on
Because you have something special in your eye
You have that twinkle thats rare among all humans
You have that special spark that keeps you fighting on

Dear Natalee
Don't think for a second that we won't be there
Every step of the way
We will fight with you
We will bring them to justice
We won't let them get away with this
Your better than this
Your family is better than this
You deserve better than this
You will get better than this

Dear Natalee
We love you so much
Your deep in our hearts now
Your deep in our souls now
And no matter what anybody says or does
Nobody can take that away from us
You've passed that sparkle in your eye to our eyes
And we will use it to carry on your mission and lifes dream
But most of all we will use it to get you justice

Dear Natalee
We promise

Please tell me your thoughts on my dream and your thoughts on my poem. Thanks!

Natalee was not foaming at the mouth in the original program. I did not see the 20/20 version, but if they said she was not, then the translation was correct.

Amazingly enough, I've heard that a lot of networks are starting to drop coverage of the story in the United States. Although I can't vouch for the veracity of this, I think that Peter R. de Vries is making a wise move in backing out of such a manic media environment.

Newspapers in the Netherlands today (such as De Pers and Metro) did run some small articles discussing Patrick van der Eem's 'criminal' past, although without real consequence to his credibility. Still, the consequence of the hype is a supercharged atmosphere of people angrily surrounding a man's house who had a similar name and venom spreading all across the Internet.

Tja... I'm not sure I like the consequences I'm seeing. The tension surrounding the release of this information was like drumming on a hornet's nest to try and get a reaction from as many inside as possible. But now everybody's going to get stung. A big ugly mess. Nobody wins. ARE YOU HAPPY NOW? ARE YOU?
